We’re going to be checking out the Bauer Supreme 2S ice hockey skates. A nice upgrade with the Tuuk LS3 stainless steel runners. It’s a higher-grade material, giving you better edge retention over the long run. Also, it’s 3mm taller so a more aggressive turning radius gives hockey players more custom profiling options and a better sharpening life.
Bauer Supreme 2S Skates
The Tuuk lightspeed edge holder most popular in the NHL uses the quick-release trigger system so you could swap out that damaged or broken steel in seconds.
All are connected to the nicely upgraded full composite outsole, even though it does still have a nylon midsole. This composite is stiffer and more rigid than what we see in the TPU in the S29 ice hockey skates. Therefore, better torsional stiffness is ideal for elite-level players.
The same thing with the flagship Curv composite quarter package that’s fully 3D-lasted—that’s a proprietary manufacturing process that gives it a truly anatomical shape right out of the box.
Aside from being ultra-lightweight and ultra-stiff, the composite is very heat-moldable too so go ahead and throw these skates in the oven. It’s pretty amazing how the stiff boot really gives you that unreal anatomical form and wraps as it starts to get soft and roll over the feet.
They have their Free Flex Tenon Guard, which made its debut in the top-of-the-line MX3 skates. It gives a hockey player full stride extension all the way through the toe snap process, really squeezing every ounce of power out of each stride.
Into the tongue, this is what they call their reflex tongue, kind of taking inspiration from the Vapor line. It’s an asymmetrical 48-ounce 3-piece white felt tongue featuring an injected insert down through the center in the past that would make the tongue pretty stiff but it still offers a lot of great forwarding flex.
This is key because you really need to get in that deep, aggressive stance, and that allows that to happen without sacrificing your protection.
Internally, they incorporate some really thick injected foam; the filling itself is the pro-level thickness and then it just has a really nice comfortable feel all the way throughout.
In the liner, we have anti-abrasion pads up the top to help reduce wear and tear for those players who like to go underneath the tongues with their shin guards.
A new lock-fit liner made of Hydra Max 2 material has a top Hydra Max grip at the bottom. The yellow material is a bit softer, a bit more comfortable, and does a great job of wicking away moisture.
The grip portion which just extends from the fourth eyelet from the top all the way down to the bottom of the boot, helps to lock the foot inside the skate for maximum stability.
For the footbed, this is their lock fit plus with grip so you have a nice, grippy texture in the heel cup and a little bit into the toes. It’s pretty minor but you can feel it when you pop your feet into the skates and kind of wiggle them around, working with that liner to really lock you down for maximum stability. In the senior size 8, the Bauer Supreme 2S skates weigh 810 grams.
Conclusion
For people who have been following the Supreme line, this is essentially a hybrid between the S180 and the S190, and that goes for the pricing as well. So really offers a lot of value at this price point, even though we wish they might have used a composite midsole.
Now fit profile-wise, this entire Supreme line is a medium volume fitting skate so that means if you have a standard heel forefoot and midfoot, this is going to be a great fit for you.
